Jennifer Hudson’s mother and brother were shot and killed in Chicago on Friday.  Her 7 year old nephew, Julian King, is missing.

All sympathy to Jennifer and her family.

While watching a  rerun of the movie Dreamgirls recently, my brain suddenly woke up and I looked for a credit to Mary Wilson, an original Supreme and the author of  “Dreamgirl: My Life as a Supreme”.   There was none.

Glue in Weave and Hair Loss

March 25, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Weaves should never be glued in. The latex glue that is used is still glue, it has a very strong aroma and can cause mildew (dandruff).

Even the better, stronger holding glue is still glue.

By the time this person in the video has suffered through what it would take to grow her hair back , (if it will grow back, her follicles look challenged), she could have spent the money on a professional.

A what not to do video:

Weavin’ ‘n Believin’… Ellin Lavar

January 7, 2008 · 6 Comments

Ellin Lavar is doing it on New York City’s Upper West Side. Her clients are among the New York and Hollywood elite. Not only does she have her own line of products, she has a reality television show, “Hair Trauma”, on WE TV.

On the program, Lavar has several employees, most notable being her brother, and her sister Kim. Kim creates most of the drama, and therefore the trauma, in the salon.

In one of the two previous episodes, Ellin does hair for a wedding party. In the meantime, her mother and another sister show up. The sister wants her hair done. Kim refuses to braid her sisters hair. This causes much sturm and drang, as Ellin has to again threaten to fire Kim (Kim has been fired 19 times). All this plays out in front of the cameras, the clients and the staff.

Should Kim be fired permanently?

Lace- Fronts

Thanks to Tyra Banks, Mary J. Blige, Halle Berry and Beyoncé, lace-front wigs are all the rage.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, RuPaul is also to blame. (Yeah, sure.) Lace-front wigs are popular because they give the illusion that the hair is growing from the scalp. Although, to be honest, when it comes to Tyra and Gwen Stefani [And John Travolta!.], we can almost always see the netting on their foreheads.

Anyway, the wig is adhered around the hairline, meaning the wearer can part her hair, put it in a ponytail or even go swimming. The cost? Anywhere from $300 to $25,000 — and maybe a little flesh and blood!

Because sometimes when the wigs come off, some skin comes with them!

But no matter: Many women are willing to pay the price. “The hair is so human looking and I can do lots of styles,” says one wig-wearer. “Its awesome.” claims another, “I can put it in a ponytail and still feel professional… feminine.” The wigs are sometimes made from synthetic strands, but most are often crafted from the hair of women in Asia.

How do you feel about lace-fronts?

How comfortable are they in hot weather?

Do you lose hair when the lace-front is removed?
