Teen-agers in Japan have stepped out of the conformity of Japanese culture in an unusual way. Harajuku style is rockin’ in Tokyo and other urban areas.
The hair shows in the United States have nothing on these kids. The styles range from sweet and innocent with an edge, to all out demonic. Hair colors are outrageous, the fashions are outrageous.
Harajuku History
In 2000, Harajuku, a neighborhood in Tokyo, became the center of an outrageous sub-culture known as Harajuku. Harajuku has small designer shops and other attractions that give it a unique flavor.
Japanese teenagers developed a completely unique look based on dressing up as their favorite fantasy characters and walking the promenade of the Harajuku fashion district. The characters were from Japanese pop culture.
Gwen Stefani recorded a song about the Harajuku girls in 2004.

Another competitive reality tv show, a spin-off of ANTM, is coming to TV Land June 4.
According to the TV Land website:

Eboni Morgan was like a deer in headlights at the change and the interaction with people from different environments and the judge’s criticisms. So was Tiffany Richardson in Cycle 4.
Bianca seemed headed in that direction also, but quickly adapted, started smiling, and ended up in the final four last season.
A model has to be able to sell herself and a product.

America’s Next Top Model will return for it’s tenth season February 20.
The best episode? Makeovers, without question.
It’s all about the hair.
The hair can make or break these model wannabes. Remember the girl who walked off the show rather than have her hair cut shorter?
Jaeda never adjusted to her haircut.
Or Brittany , with the painful, unmanageable fire engine red weave?
And who can forget Bianca, season 9, and how well she took to the almost bald look?
The mushroom look of the winner, Saleisha, was not to be believed. Of course, many feel her win last season was not to be believed.
Say what you will about Miss Jade, she was correct when she said models in magazines had long hair.

The makeover show is usually after Tyra and the Gang have dropped a couple of girls.
